The MoralGenius Story
MoralGenius was conceived and created by Dr. Shandra Wilson, who is a mom of preschoolers. Before creating the MoralGenius flashcards, Shandra did extensive research on character development in young children and worked with teachers, parents, and psychologists. The goal was to develop a tool that could strengthen and promote strong moral values during the early years of life. This area of development is often overlooked as academic skills are being taught.
In addition to being the inventor and owner of MoralGenius, Dr. Wilson is a well-known physician who serves as an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Denver School of Medicine, and as the General Urology and Urologic Oncology Practice Director for Urologic Oncology at University of Colorado Hospital.
Dr. Wilson was the first woman to join the Urologic faculty at the University of Colorado. Her subspecialty training is in Oncology. She is also involved in teaching medical students, residents, and the family practice community. Additionally, Dr. Wilson is actively involved in clinical and basic science research aimed to improve outcomes in patients diagnosed with genitourinary malignancy.
Dr. Wilson is known for both her technical excellence and her exceptional " bedside manner." Dr. Wilson exudes a confident yet humble personality, listens well to patients, communicates with their doctors, visits them in the hospital, and truly enjoys her work. Dr. Wilson’s kind personality, work ethic, and technical skill have repetitively placed her on Kiplinger's list of "Who's Who" and the Research Council of America's "Top Doctor" list.
After enrolling her children in a school that included character and leadership in the curriculum, Dr. Wilson became inspired to create MoralGenius flashcards by working with counselors, psychologists, ministers, etc. She noticed a striking improvement in her kids’ behavior. There was much less fighting between the two children, and a lot less work to do as a referee when her kids were on the right track. She worked with her close friend and neighbor Patty Larmore, who is a graphic designer and MOPS member, to complete the MoralGenius flashcards. Together Dr. Wilson and Patty made the character and leadership curriculum available for everyone.
In her spare time, Dr. Wilson enjoys spending time with her two lovely children, Amanda, 6 and Andrew, 5 as well as hiking, and jogging.
